There’s been a lot of talk about cold water therapy tubs, also known as an ice bath, so to find out if the health benefits were really as good as they say, I tested the Lumi Recovery Pod Ice Bath for 20 days.

With health benefits such as improving circulation, aiding deeper sleep, boosting energy levels, mood and so much more, I wanted to test the health benefits of using the Lumi Recovery Pod Ice Bath every day for 20 days, and to see if I felt a difference.

Key features

UFO Thermo lid: the Lumi Pod lid is an insulated and inflatable lid with LUMI Bridge Tech. It's made fin a unique shape that doubles it up to stop rainwater from collecting and sagging the middle of the All Weather Cover.

All Weather Cover: having the All Weather Cover included means that the Lumi pod is more protected from rain, snow and sunshine. It also helps prevent debris falling into the Pod.

Inflatable top ring: adding an element of comfort, the inflatable top ring means you can rest your head and relax against the side of the Lumi Recovery Pod.

Drain tap: as the Lumi Recovery Pod is portable, the drain tap is an extremely handy feature. It allows for emptying the Pod efficiently, without having to manually empty it or attempting to tip it over.

Design

When I first pictured an ice bath, I imagined a large, almost vintage hot tub-style pod that was a bit of an eye sore, so I was pleasantly surprised with the black and white style that looked sleek. I didn’t feel like it took up too much room, and it was nice to look at too.

Two of the design features I loved was the drain tap and the inflatable top ring. The drain tap meant it was easy to empty the water out of the Lumi Recovery Pod Ice Bath, which would save time and effort from manually emptying it.

I loved the inflatable top ring as an additional design feature as it meant you could relax your head back against the side, where the edge of the pod would be. It's just a little design feature that really added to the quality of the Lumi Pod.

Usability

Very straight forward to use, I found that the usability was great. I do think if you were a little shorter that you might need a step to get into the Lumi Pod, however as someone with longer legs I didn't find this a struggle at all.

Performance

As someone who struggles with anxiety and also as someone who's new years goals is to become more active and take care of my wellbeing more, I thought the Lumi Pod would be a good place to start in aiding the journey.

There are a few things to consider before using the Lumi Pod, such as if you struggle with high blood pressure or diabetes, you would need to consult medical advise first. I do air on the side of caution a lot, so I spoke with my doctor about using the Lumi Ice Pod, and they confirmed it would be fine to use for shorter periods of time.

Final verdict

Before I tried the ice bath, I was very sceptical about how it would benefit my health and as someone who complains about the cold a lot, I didn’t think plunging myself into cold water would be something I could commit to every day. However, I was genuinely surprised at how quickly my mindset shifted and how I felt after.

There’s no denying that the first few times of using the Lumi Recovery Pod Ice Bath were tough, but after a few days I definitely started to enjoy it and found it quite relaxing.

You do need to put the Lumi Recovery Pod where there will be more shade in the warmer months and ensure that it's on a relatively flat surface. After using the Lumi Recovery Pod for 20 days, I do agree that I have been sleeping better and I am not having as many anxiety attacks. I would advise consulting with a doctor before investing in the Ice Bath, as there are a few health issues such as high blood pressure and having diabetes, that would prevent you from using it.

Personally, if you are willing to commit to using the Lumi Recovery Pod Ice Bath a few times a week at least, I would definitely say it's worth the investment.
