There are many back support cushions on the market, and at £32.99 this one seems to a mid-range price. I’ve not used a back support cushion before but as a full-time worker, I spend a lot of time at my desk and I’m particularly bad at standing up and moving around as much as is recommended. I also have a slight curvature of the spine which causes issues with my neck and since reaching 40 I’ve noticed increased pain in my hips and lower back, so I’m always on the lookout for products that will help my posture and reduce those niggly aches and pains. I was keen to see if this could help.
Testing the Everlasting Comfort Memory Foam Lumbar Support Cushion
The cushion arrives with just a plastic packaging and the label. There are no instructions which, although it’s just a cushion, I feel would have been helpful in terms of explaining where it’s best to position the cushion and how the straps should be used. The straps are connected by a middle connector which I presume allows them to be made longer if it was a particularly wide chair or a wheelchair. I have a normal office chair so I had to take it off both the straps to make them shorter so they fit snugly around the back of the chair. This is fine but I can see the connecter sections may well go missing at some point.

I tested the cushion over the course of a month, using it from 9-5.30 every day at my desk. It’s obviously designed to be left on the seat it’s attached to but depending on my aches and pains, I did move it up and down the chair to see how it affected them. For instance, I generally used it at the base of the chair back which I found comfortable in a day-to-day use. But I hurt my lower back during the testing period and then found it uncomfortable to have the cushion at that level as it shortens the seat depth considerably which then pushed my hips to the front of the chair. I tried moving it further up the chair back but found this pushed the middle of my back too far forward and created what felt like an unnatural curve in my spine. In an ideal world, I’d pull the seat of the chair forward to create more depth in the seat. This way, the cushion would support my lower back, stop it sinking backwards, but the chair would provide my support for my hips.
In terms of durability, I can see that the Everlasting Support cushion is likely to live up to its name – the foam feels very strong and I can’t see it losing shape anytime soon. The buckles on the straps feel strong and well made so I don’t have any concerns about them breaking. The cover zips off easily for washing and it’s easy to put it back on again.

Final verdict
The Everlasting Comfort Memory Foam Lumbar Support cushion is a high-quality product if you’re looking for a lumbar support cushion. I have no complaints about the design (apart from the superfluous connecter straps and lack of instructions) and if I were able to alter the seat depth of the chair itself, I’d say this would be a very good product. Whether it helps with aches and pains is less conclusive – while I’ve been able to sit comfortably for long periods of time at my desk, when my hips and lower back did start to hurt, this cushion didn’t provide the right comfort. I suspect that the combination of the seat support cushion and this back cushion may be better but that doubles the price. In conclusion, I will continue to use the cushion as I don’t believe it’s had any negative impact on my back or hips, and has made sitting for long periods of time slightly more comfortable for my lower back.
