Find the best arch support trainers for your new exercise regime, providing that much-needed help your feet may need. If your feet are known to get very tired or achy after walking, this could be a sign that your feet are flat. Ideally, you want new trainers that support the arch, which is made up of intricate tendons and ligaments – to “ensure your foot can gracefully carry your weight and spread it evenly while walking or running,” says footwear brand, Pavers. But, what are arch support trainers?

Whether you love to go for a run or break out your walking trainers every so often for a stroll, arch support is a great addition to your wellness and fitness regime. For this, Pavers recommends seeking out designs that have a “robust midsole, which offers a cushioned cradle for those arches.” There’s no denying the importance of the arch of our feet, though – as it doubles as shock absorption and flexibility when we’re on the move. Fallen arches can lead to pain in the feet, ankles, knees and hip.

The problem is everyone’s feet are a little different. So, it may be hard to figure out what you need – which is why we’ve written this guide. Some of us may need wide feet trainers for a comfy fit. Plus, with arch support, comes varying levels of support and other comfort-related attributes, like memory foam. Luckily, the footprint test can determine which level of support you need; arch support should stabilise the area, but should not be too rigid – “as this will cause further pain,” says Pavers.

When shopping for footwear with arch support, there are several key features you should look out for. As a rule of thumb, for adequate arch support, Pavers says to look out for a raised contoured section of the footbed or a cushioned insole. Luckily, for you, we have the answers. Whether you’ll use these trainers for the gym or trekking across the countryside, there are plenty of trainers that are fit for their purpose – and will alleviate pain and provide support. And – we’ve found the best.

The F-MODE Flow Flatform Trainers effortlessly combine fashion-forward design with superior comfort and arch support, making them the perfect choice for those who refuse to compromise on style or foot health. Inspired by retro running shoes, these trainers elevate everyday outfits while providing the support you need for all-day wear.

At the heart of their comfort is the patented Microwobbleboard™ midsole, originally developed by British biomechanists. Best arch support trainers FAQs

Do you need arch support?

Flat feet, or fallen arches, are where your feet are flat on the ground. But, don’t worry. This is actually common – and usually nothing to worry about. Though, typically, you do not need to do anything about your fallen arches, if they’re causing you problems, you may need some support. Normal symptoms can include a little pain around your ankle – or the arch of your foot may ache. Plus, you may notice that your shoes wear out quickly. However, the NHS says to see your GP if:

• Your feet are painful, stiff, weak or numb
• You often get foot or ankle injuries
• It only affects one of your feet
• You have problems with walking or balance
• You did not have flat feet before

Your GP may refer you to a specialist – whether on the NHS or privately. Typically, these treatments can offer advice about what shoes to wear (wide, low heels are best), shoe insoles, foot stretches and exercises, and painkillers. These things can help with the pain and stiffness you experience.

Which type of arch support do I need?

Those with fallen arches are not the only people who need arch support in their soles. We’ve spoken to Pavers on how to tell whether you have a flat, medium or high arch – and what can be done:

Normal/medium arches – are denoted by a clear curve along the inside of the foot. They can be super helpful in absorbing shock. For this, Pavers recommends shoes that offer a “balanced embrace, those with moderate arch support or stability designs” to make sure you stay on track.

Flat/low arches – means (almost) your entire sole touches the ground: no curves in sight. Don’t despair – it’s perfectly normal unless it’s painful. For flat feet, Pavers suggests embracing shoes that “provide firmer support, perhaps with a defined arch or motion control” to counter your step.

High arches – mean you may only see a thin line when you do the wet footprint test. One's heel and forefoot make contact with the ground. These feet do not absorb shock well – which means you can have issues with foot pain. Pavers says “cushioned or neutral shoes” are best for this type.

Having said that, Pavers says the shape and arch of your foot are just two of the many factors you should consider when choosing the best footwear for yourself. Other factors such as “gait, foot volume, and specific needs or conditions” need to be considered before you buy the best arch support trainers.

Which types of trainers are best for arch support?

Perhaps, you’re a little worried that your trainers aren’t going to support your feet when you run or jog. If you have fallen arches, trainers with arch support are going to help your peace of mind and avoid any pain or injuries. For the best arch support trainers, look for a...
