Personalised gift site yappy.com has explored thousands of dog names that new owners have input into their website in the past six months to reveal the most popular dog names of 2021.
The most popular dog name of 2021 was Luna jumping six places in two years and overtaking Bella, the most popular dog name of 2020. Instead, Bella places number three while Teddy scoops second place. 936 more pooches were named Teddy in 2021 than in 2019, a rise of over 229 per cent!
The name that has most fallen out of favour is Alfie. It was top spot in 2019 and now is number 8 in 2021.

The results have also been narrowed down by the most popular dog names for each breed.
The top name for a Dachshund, aka a sausage dog, is Rolo. Rolo is followed by Frank, Slinky, Coco, Minnie, Snoop, Digby, Peggy, Fudge and Sizzle.
For an English Bulldog, the most popular name is Winston, supposedly inspired by one of Britain’s most famous Prime Ministers, Winston Churchill.
Border Collie lovers all seemed to love the name Skye. Single-syllable names are a great choice for this highly intelligent breed as they’re easy for collies to memorise and respond to easily when they’re busy with their favourite instinctive pastime - herding.
