As much as we love our four-legged friends, every pet owner knows just how frustrating it is to tidy a room, only to have your fur-baby mess it up five minutes later with muddy paws and pet hair, but thankfully there are steam cleaners such as the The BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Pet Select on the market to make tackling these messes much easier.

The BISSELL® CrossWave® is a versatile cleaning device designed specifically for households with pets. It combines the functionality of a vacuum cleaner with the ability to wash and steam clean multiple surfaces, making it ideal for tackling pet messes and maintaining a clean home environment.

How we tested the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Pet Select multi-surface cleaner

Our Commercial Content Writer, Arabella Horspool, has three dogs and tested the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Pet Select multi-surface cleaner on tile, linoleum and carpet to see how it fared. She has provided insights on the assembly process, cleaning experience, and overall usage.

Setting-up process

Coming in four parts, I found the BISSELL® CrossWave® HydroSteam™ Pet Select easy to put together, following the illustrative instructions provided.

It also comes with a natural multi-surface cleaning solution which is made from natural ingredients and is pet-safe, which gave me peace of mind when using it. A small amount goes a long way, as it's concentrated enough to be the equivalent of 7 bottles of cleaning fluid.

Usage

It's lightweight and easy to manoeuvre when going backwards and forwards, however, I've noticed that if I need to lift it up for whatever reason (to carry up the stairs) it lets out a little drop of dirty water

As for the controls, they couldn't be more simple! You can simple switch between the three settings at the touch of a button, and there are corresponding symbols near the brush which will light up to show you which setting you've selected.

Hard floor

Having three dogs means that they're always in and out of the garden and when it's raining they often bring a trail of little footprints into the house. The BISSELL CrossWave HyrdroSteam Pet lifted these with ease and also cleared the floor of any pet hairs.

I found the addition of the light to be a bonus, as it illuminates the floor, indicating any stray pieces of dirt that may have been missed.

Carpet

I tested the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Pet Select multi-surface cleaner on a section of carpet that had some glittery make-up accidentally dropped on it. The cleaner was able to pick up all of the tiny flecks of glitter, without smudging any makeup into the carpet.

Tiles

Bathroom tiles are relatively easy to clean, although it can be uncomfortable to bend down or sit on the floor for long periods of time whilst washing them with a cloth. Thankfully, the BISSELL cleaner glided over them (and removed any soap scum) and the whole job was done in about two minutes. Result!

Key features

Multi-Surface Cleaning

I love that that this device is capable of cleaning both hard floors and area rugs, as it means I don't have to switch up my cleaning routine and buy separate steam cleaners for tiles and carpets or different cleaning solutions either.

Two-Tank System

It separates the clean water and formula from the dirty water, which means you're always cleaning with a fresh solution, which is much more hygienic than using a bowl and cloth to wash the whole floor.

Plus, it's easy to remove the tanks when they need emptying or cleaning and re-attach them once they're dried.

HydroSteam™ technology

The standout feature obviously has to be the HydroSteam™ Technology, as the cleaner turns the warm water into steam and releases it as you move the machine, to sanitise surfaces and kill bacteria that comes with footfall (both human and pet). It left the floor looking and feeling much cleaner.

Pet specific features

Talking of pets, the BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Pet Select comes with specialised pet cleaning solutions and accessories. Each of my dogs have different types of fur and the tangle-free brush roll did a great job at picking them up. There's also a pet hair strainer which catches it to prevent it from clogging the machine.

Maintenance

Each piece can is removable and therefore easy to clean, which is great as it means all of the hair and dirt can be taken out so that the machine can run smoothly next time it's needed. To clean each piece, I simply used soap and warm water, then left the pieces in the sun to dry.

For a deeper clean, I like to use the automatic self-cleaning cycle with the FreshStart™ Clean-Out formula and antimicrobial filter which flushes out the machine and gets to the places that are unreachable to get rid of any lurking bacteria. You simply place it on the stand, add the recommended amount of Freshstart™ Clean-out Cycle Solution into the tank and leave it to do it's thing.

Final verdict

The BISSELL CrossWave HydroSteam Pet Multi-Surface cleaner combines vacuuming and washing in one step, saving time and effort in maintaining a clean home. It's ideal for people who suffer with a back pain or mobility issues as they can stand upright and clean their floors. Most importantly of all, it leaves floors looking clean and fresh, even after muddy paws have made their mark.
