British weather can be unpredictable at the best of times. One day, you're walking in the sunshine with your loving four-legged companion and the next, you can be huddled in a bus stop with your pooch, shivering whilst trying to shelter from the pouring rain. Us Brits know that a coat is a staple to our wardrobe regardless of the season. The Aldi dog coat has grown in popularity with dog owners. We love these coats because they are affordable and comfortable.
Due to popular demand, many of the coats have now sold out. But fear not, we have compiled the best coats to keep your pooch perfectly toasty on those wet and windy days, including Aldi dog coats.
What type of dog needs a coat?
Dogs with thin fur, small or medium dogs, elderly dogs and puppies are more susceptible to cold weather. Some dogs are better suited to colder temperatures, for example, huskies. Their thick coats allow them to stay warm in colder temperatures. However, all canines will feel the cold in severe weather. All dogs need to get regular exercise to stay healthy - this is when a dog coat is ideal as it can keep your doggy warm and safe from the dangers of extreme cold weather.
How to measure your dog for a coat?
When purchasing a coat for your pup, it must fit comfortably. If the clothing doesn’t fit right, it will rub and cause discomfort.
Your dog should be to do everything they usually do without the coat on, including urinating and pooping.
Each option will have size specifications for you to choose from: follow our guide below to help you measure your dog correctly.
Length – Measure your pup from their collar to the bottom of the tail.
Chest – Measure the width of your doggy’s chest from just behind their front legs.
Neck – Measure the area around the neck where your dog’s collar is.

FAQs
What happens if my dog gets too cold?
When your furry friend gets too cold, they could be at risk of developing hypothermia. The serious condition occurs when a dog's body temperature falls below 28 degrees, mild cases fall between 32 and 35 degrees, and moderate hypothermia will be experienced between 28 and 32 degrees.
If the dog's temperature continues to decline, the muscles stiffen, the breathing and heart rates slow and become shallow, which could lead to serious health complications and, in some cases, be fatal.
What are the signs of hypothermia in dogs?
• Increased heart rate, followed by a slow heart rate.
• Rapid breathing, followed by slow shallowed breath.
• Not responding as usual.
• Disinterest in activities around them.
• Dilated pupils.
• Loss of consciousness.
It is important that if you suspect your dog is suffering from any illness, especially hypothermia, you take them to a vet right away.
