We spend around a third of our lives sleeping or trying to get to sleep, so investing in the best mattress, pillows and best duvet to suit our sleeping habits and preferences is advised, to give us the best chance of getting good quality sleep.
After realising our very tired duvet was over 12 years old, we decided to make the switch to an all season wool duvet and boy, did it make a difference to our sleep!
The Woolroom Deluxe Washable Wool Duvet is a natural fibre luxurious feeling duvet that can be adapted for the different seasons as it’s made in two layers and is also hypoallergenic, making it ideal for allergy sufferers.

Testing the Deluxe Washable Wool Duvet
The Woolroom Deluxe Washable Wool Duvet turned up to our door in a huge box, but inside, the duvet was packed into an easy to carry and store away bag which was a lovely touch.
After removing the duvet from its packaging, it was instantly clear to see how brilliant the quality of this duvet was, particularly compared to our previous synthetic duvet, and I can really see it standing the test of time.
We’d previously gone for a synthetic duvet as my partner suffers from asthma which tends to be triggered by feather pillows and duvets and we believed synthetic bedding products would be best for this, however, after reading more about the benefits of the Woolroom duvets, we learned that these wool duvets are naturally hypoallergenic, certified by Allergy UK as the only natural duvet to hold the Allergy UK Seal of Approval.
In fact, at Woolroom, they’re able to track and tract exactly where the wool in all of their bedding and mattresses come from. They work hard to source the highest quality wool from around the UK, carrying out the most stringent checks to ensure the highest welfare of the sheep and fair pay for the farmers. All you need to do is scan the QR code on your product tag and you can trace the origins of your wool right back to the farmers and sheep who provided it.
After scanning our barcode, we found some more information about the wool used in the products as well as a list of all the farmers who provide the wool to Wool Room with information about their farms.
On first impressions, we were very impressed with the look and feel of the duvet. It’s important to note that it is very heavy making it fairly difficult to make the bed if you’re on your own. We had the king size duvet so it was on the larger side, but I'd recommend asking for some help changing the bedding if you’re not very strong.

After getting into bed for our first night of sleep with the Woolroom duvet, it felt very luxurious and cosy, and the added weight helped us to drift off quicker than usual.
As it was much thicker than our previous duvet, my partner was concerned that he would be too hot in the night, as he tends to overheat when sleeping. However, both myself who tends to get cold in the night and my partner who always complains he’s too warm, found that the Woolroom duvet regulated our body temperatures perfectly throughout the night, keeping us at a comfortable temperature. We were interested to learn that wool works as a great cooling duvet and is naturally temperature regulating and works to keep your temperature just right by drawing moisture away to keep you cool, and as a breathable insulator, it works with your body to keep you warm. We’re yet to test the duvet in the hot summer months, but so far, we’ve been very impressed with it so far when it comes to regulating body temperature.
The duvet arrived attached together in its double layer with both the lightweight duvet layers connected together to make one thick duvet to keep you warm and cosy on winter nights. After a few nights, I noticed that the duvet began to bunch up a little inside the duvet cover and look a little lumpy in places. I decided to remove the cover to take a look and found that the poppers that connect the two lightweight duvets together to create a thick winter duvet had begun to pop open leaving much of the duvet in two separate pieces. This explained the faint popping sound I could hear when moving around in the night and pulling the duvet closer towards me. I found this is the most disappointing part about the duvet and really think that a stronger attachment such as strong velcro or even buttons would work better to keep the duvets connected, particularly for those who tend to fidget in the night. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from stitching on some velcro yourself to keep the two duvets securely attached together in the cooler months.
While we haven’t yet needed to wash the duvet yet, I'm very confident that the duvet will wash well in the washing machine on a wool cycle at 30 degrees. As it’s line dry only, we’ll be waiting for the warmer months to wash our duvet as it isn’t tumble dryer safe and a bit too large for our heated clothes airer.
Final verdict
This duvet seriously improved our sleep quality, and this was clear from the first night of sleep. The weight, thickness and luxurious feel helped us get to sleep very quickly and the temperature regulating properties meant our temperature was regulated throughout the night. The biggest downside was how easily the attachment poppers came apart, and for the price, we expected a more secure fastening.

FAQs
Is a wool duvet too hot for summer?
While it's normal to put our wool clothes away for the summer months, you might be wondering if wool is too hot to sleep in on hot nights. In fact, wool is naturally efficient when it comes to regulating body temperature. Not only is it very breathable, but it's great for wicking away moisture.
What duvet is best for all seasons?
When choosing the best duvet for year round weather, it's best to find a duvet that can be changed and adapted depending on the seasons. If it's a single layer duvet you're after, it's best to go for a medium rate tog at around 7-10.5 tog. If you're someone who struggles to regulate their temperature during the night, a double layer duvet that you can use just half of in the summer is a great idea, as you have the option of using from 2-15 tog rating, as you get with this Deluxe Washable Duvet.
Can wool duvets be washed in a washing machine?
If you've ever washed wool before, you'll know how delicate it can be, so it's important you check all the washing instructions before washing it. If having a machine washable wool duvet is important to you, then the Woolroom's washable deluxe wool duvet is ideal as you can wash it on a cool wool cycle and line dry outside.
