Here's what our tester thought of the Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless Vacuum Cleaner.
The BISSELL® MultiReach™ Active 21V cordless vacuum at a glance
Product specification: The BISSELL® MultiReach™ Active 21V hand‐held vacuum, effective & versatile cordless cleaning with no hair wrap. The 21V battery provides up to 30 minutes of powerful cleaning with 2 modes for different floor surfaces. The 2-in-1 device can be easily converted to a hand-held vacuum for easy floor-to-ceiling cleaning. The Easy Empty™ dirt tank and Clean Slide Technology for a cleaner dust bin emptying experience.
My very first impression on unboxing this vacuum was that it’s motor unit is rather large and on the heavy-side to handle. The motor unit can be used as a hand-held device, and comes with a floor head (for both carpets and hard floors) complete with a row of LED lights, plus two attachments, a crevice tool and a short bristled brush. It has a wall-mountable charging cradle.
After a full charge, the unit performed exactly as it claims to do, for 30 minutes on low power. I was able to clean the whole house within this time, and the floor head was very flexible to push around, but on the low power setting, the vacuum lacked oomph.
I also found it odd that the unit starts up automatically on high power, (which is adequate) so from there the only way to go is to downshift and opt for less power (which felt inadequate). If anything, an option to start low and then boost power when needed would be more logical to me.
I made sure the vacuum was tasked with cleaning up my daughter’s very long hair, which I was impressed to see was dealt with well, as it did not tangle on the drum. I was also very impressed with the LED lights as they exposed missed areas of dust and fluff especially in dark corners and on the stairs.
I recharged and tested the vacuum again on high power continuously, using the hand-held tools and this ran for 20 minutes. Using the unit as a hand-held emphasised its weightiness (which wasn’t so noticeable when pushing it along the floor), and I found the brush accessory was rather inflexible to get into tight corners.
Emptying the drum of dust was a bit fiddly as it needs to be removed completely from the motor body (rather than a simple flip-open action), followed by removing the filter drum, but I noticed the dust and hair did exit the drum into the bin very easily without anything getting caught, which was a big plus.
In summary this vacuum is a budget buy and does the job. It lives up to its claim to tackle long hair, and lighting the way is a clever touch, but it lacks oomph and flexibility.
How did this product make your life easier?
No hair wrap on the rollers was a big plus. I also liked the LED lights which revealed hidden dirt in dark corners.
Would you recommend this product?
I would recommend it as a budget model, but not to anyone for whom its weight would be a issue.
Would you choose this product above all others on the market?
This product appears to be priced only a little less than a base model offered by the market leader. I wouldn’t choose the Bissell, mainly for its lack of suction-power and weight (and lack of accessories compared to the market leader )
What changes would you make to this product?
I really would have appreciated a lighter motor unit and more powerful suction.
