How did this product make your life easier?
We have used a Smart thermostat from another well-known brand before and it was a revelation for us. Not only was it more compact and better looking than our old, standard thermostat, most importantly, it was more accurate in keeping our home to a stable temperature and helped lower our energy bill! We could even set a timer on it and remotely switch it on whilst away on holiday, making sure our house was kept to a steady temperature and not having to impose on friends and family, to switch on the heating the day before we got home.
The only problem with the previous thermostat, is that when we moved home, we would be forced to pay not only for another thermostat but also to get it fitted again – a little annoying in all honesty. Thankfully, tado° approached us with their innovative Wireless Smart Thermostat. Not only did it rival the price of other well-known brands, a key saving lies in that you can fit yourself!
When the tado° arrived, we were impressed by the design of all the items – they are as compact as they can possibly be and the sensor, when compared with the other brand we were used to, was slimmer and more discreet. After reading the instructions thoroughly, my husband (the DIY go-to in our house) was impressed that there were actually more items than needed for us to fit it – they really had thought out well what the buyer would need to complete the task!
Without going into the ins and outs of how we fitted the receiver, sensor and router, we will say from the get-go that thankfully, you do not need a degree in Internet connection/WiFi or engineering to fit it!
In the words of our home DIYer “if you take the time to read the instructions, prepare the tools you need for the fitting and take your time whilst following the instructions, you will be fine”. We must commend tado° for their mobile App - it was brilliant in giving a user-friendly step-by-step set-up guide.
Once the tado° was set up, you just need to use the App to set it to your desired temperature and away you go! Whilst we wish there weren’t so many Apps out there (can be so confusing!), we must give credit to tado° for their App. Not only can you control your heating temperature, you can set the heating to switch on and off at multiple times in any one day (this helps control efficiency during the colder hours, versus the warmer ones). There is other helpful information on it, such as specific data on the indoor and outdoor air quality of your home and other useful energy saving tips. If you would you like to have information on how to care and protect your heating system, you have an option of paying £2.99 per month for an additional mobile App service called Care and Protect. We are very happy with the standard App but it’s good to know there is additional support if you need it!
Would you recommend this product?
Definitely! Tado° makes the bold statement ‘designed to save both energy and costs (by up to 31%)’ – they are so confident in this claim that it provides a 12 months money-back guarantee so if a user doesn’t save within the first 12 months - no questions asked’. Based on our experience with other similar products and what we have seen with tado° so far, we have no doubt they are right to make that statement. The set-up was as easy as they could make it and you can tell real thought has gone into what the householder will need in the box and through the App.
Would you choose this product above all others on the market?
A resounding ‘yes’! It is a product that does what it sets out to – provide technology that is useful, saves money and looks good. Few pieces of newer technology really make a stable impact on home life for the better but this goes against that grain - once you have this thermostat, you will wonder why you never bought it sooner.
Tado° may be less well known than other ‘Smart Home Device’ companies but this product is great and we hope it will boost their popularity in the market.
What changes would you make to this product?
This is less of a change and more of a suggestion. As tado° is still relatively new to the UK market, I hope that they eventually set up a Customer Service Helpline - just in case there are any product or technical queries the buyer may have. The tado° Online FAQs and Webchats are pretty good in themselves but it still doesn’t negate the fact that sometimes speaking to a ‘human’ on the phone is the easiest and less frustrating way of obtaining information and resolving problems. Having said all this, we still prefer the tado° to their competitors. There aren't any.
