Nothing can transform a room like a fresh lick of paint, so if you’re keen to elevate your living room then you probably want to know which living room colours are going to be popular in 2023. After all, it can be nice to opt for something timely, but it’s also important to think about what kind of atmosphere you’re trying to create. When it comes to choosing the right colour of paint, it’s not just about what it looks like, but about how it makes you feel too. Different colours can evoke different emotions and you’ll definitely want your living room to be a place that helps you to feel calm and relaxed.
Which living room colour is popular for 2023?
Nature-inspired colours are set to be big for 2023 — think natural greens, blues, sunset hues and comforting neutrals that really capture the outdoor landscapes from all over the world.
These colours are set to help us to feel closer to nature in our homes and inspire us to take a moment to slow down. With more people spending time outdoors than ever before to better their mental and physical wellbeing, as well as making more eco-conscious choices, we’re not surprised that these colours are set to be popular.
But don’t be fooled into thinking that means these colours are muted, bland and boring, as plenty of them are still bold and bright.
Popular living room colours 2023
Dulux — Wild Wonder
Named Dulux Colour of 2023, this warm neutral shade with green undertones really captures the wonders of the earth and will transform any living space into a relaxing haven. It instantly reminds us of those warm summer countryside evenings, with never-ending fields with the sun going down in the distance.
What colours to pair it with: If you’re keen to add a splash of colour, while still keeping that nature-inspired feel, Dulux’s designers recommend opting for either Cosmos Flower — a muted shade of lavender — or Passion Flower, which is more of a purple marl.

Graham & Brown — Alizarin
Graham & Brown’s colour for 2023 is this deep, warm shade of auburn red, which gives a nod to exotic landscapes. We love how rich, earthy and vibrant it is and think it would work well as either a feature wall colour in your living room, or if you’re feeling bold you could paint the whole room this colour.
What colour to pair with: Opt for warm yellows — such as Graham & Brown’s Turmeric — forest greens or teal shades — such as Whale Tail.

Lick — Taupe Soho Roc House
This stunning shade from Lick includes blends of greys, beiges and a hint of red to create a warm, natural taupe that takes us back to coastal retreats. It’s the perfect shade if you’re keen to evoke a light and laid-back feel to your living room.
What colour to pair with: Lick suggests seafoam and sage greens or those with blue undertones. These will really help to awaken the room and, in return, boost your mood.

Farrow & Ball — Beverly
Beverly is one of the 11 new colours Farrow & Ball have added to their colour cards, and we love it. Nothing screams the outdoors more than the colour green and this shade is modern and oozes elegance.
What colour to pair with: If you’re trying to keep things clean and subtle opt for whites with a hint of grey to keep things soft looking. However, you could contrast it with an alternative shade of green or even a bright primary colour, like Farrow and Ball have done above with the colour Selvedge, for a bit of a pop.

Farrow & Ball — Kittiwake
Another one of Farrow & Ball’s beautiful new colours is this fresh, clean blue. When creating this colour for 2023, the brand says it was inspired by the wings of seabirds when seen in the sunlight. Unlike last year, when we saw a lot of cooler colours on trend, this blue is warm and sophisticated and would look perfect on a feature wall in your living room.
What colour to pair with: Farrow & Ball’s colour experts suggest pairing this colour with contrasting shades of blue for a cool contrast.

Albany — Optimistic Orange
Albany hasn't decided to go with one particular colour for 2023, but instead a palette of warm Sahara sunset colours. These include Salmon, Tango Terra, Holiday Sun (an exotic orange), Flowerdew (a soft peach) and Spice Boat (a velvety brown).
What colour to pair with: We actually think a lot of these colours would look very nice together, just as they do during a sunset. Whereas Tango Terra, Holiday Sun and Spice boat would make for nice feature wall colours, Flowerdew and Salmon could work well for the entire living room.

Farrow & Ball — Eddy
If you love green but prefer a calmer, more soft shade, then Eddy from Farrow & Ball's new colour collection will tick your box. Wild water swimming has become hugely popular in the past couple of years and this paint has been named after the circular currents that these swimmers enjoy. If there was ever a colour to create calm and tranquillity in your living room, it's definitely this colour.
What colour to pair with: The beauty of this shade being so soft, as opposed to bold and bright, allows you to be able to pair so many different colours with it. Slightly contrasting shades of green — such as French Grey — would look stunning to create a gorgeous greenery sanctuary or, if you want to go down the neutral route, Farrow & Ball recommend this oatmeal shade called Stirabout.
Don’t forget…
Before you dash into painting your living room with your gorgeous new colour, make sure you’ve checked out our painting tips for walls, ceilings and more to make sure you know how to create a smooth finish. The correct paint brush will also make a huge difference to this too. If you’re trying to get into smaller spaces, then you’ll need a cutting in paint brush, however for larger spaces a paint roller will ensure a flawless finish. Always make sure you know how to clean paint brushes properly too.
