It can just take one meal to mess up your beautifully clean microwave and leave it in a dirty, smelly state. However, cleaning it is actually super easy, cheap and takes no longer than 10 minutes tops.

Here’s how to clean a microwave using either a lemon, white wine vinegar, or using bicarbonate of soda, our favourite all-round cleaning product.

How to clean a microwave with vinegar

1. Add 500ml of water to a microwavable bowl or jug and then add in 2 tbsp of white wine vinegar.

2. Put your bowl or jug in the microwave and then turn your microwave onto full power and microwave for 5 minutes.

3. Once finished, leave the microwave door closed for about 3 minutes to loosen up all the dirt inside your microwave.

4. Carefully remove the bowl or jug from the microwave (the water will be very hot!).

5. If your microwave has a turntable, remove this, then take your sponge and wipe down your microwave starting from the roof then moving down the sides. Give the turntable a wipe over with the sponge too, before popping it back in the microwave.

This is almost the same as the white vinegar method, but instead of adding vinegar to your bowl you use a lemon instead. Cut a whole lemon in half and squeeze its juice into a bowl or jug of water, then follow the exact same steps as the method above.

How to clean a microwave with baking soda

Baking soda can clean just about everything, from your oven to getting stains out of your beloved bed mattress. Again, this time in your bowl or jug add two heaped tablespoons of baking soda, give it a mix and follow the same steps as above.
