Vacuuming may not be everyone's favourite chore, but a high-quality vacuum cleaner can make keeping your home clean and tidy a bit more pleasant. With so many options available, knowing which one is worth the investment can be tough. That’s why we’ve put the Hoover HF2 to the test to help you determine if it’s the right fit for your needs.

This cordless vacuum cleaner is lightweight, smooth and sleek - unlike some other vacuums which are bulkier and corded - but is it as effective at vacuuming your home? Our Commercial Content Writer Arabella Horspool has given it a try.

How we tested the Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

I ensured that the Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner was thoroughly put through its paces by testing it on many surfaces including hard floors, carpets, rugs and tiles in my busy home which has three dogs and people coming and going.

My family members have also tried the Hoover HF2 so that we can compare notes and cover the perspectives of people from different age ranges.

Testing the Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum on hard floors

The first test for the Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner was to tackle dog hair on hard floors, which I have plenty of (being the proud owner of three dogs)! I loved how the vacuum glided across the surface with ease and swiftly collected dust. The anti-hair wrap technology made it ideal as a cordless vacuum for pet hair, as it didn't get caught up in the brush.

It's important to note that the brush wasn't very effective at collecting debris of a certain size. After opening a parcel, small dots of polystyrene were on the floor, and the vacuum struggled to pick them up. However, after converting the HF2 Hoover to a handheld device and using the Turbo mode, it was much more effective.

Testing the Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner on carpet

The Hoover glided effortlessly between the hard floor and carpet, and I used the Turbo mode again to ensure that every speck of hair and dust was picked up. As far as rugs are concerned, I switched to Eco mode so that they were not lifted off of the floor due to the suction.

Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner: final verdict

The Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is a great option for those who need a lightweight, efficient, and user-friendly vacuum for everyday use. I was pleasantly surprised at how flexible the product is - it can slide gracefully around corners, under sofas and furniture, and there's a light to illuminate dark areas (such as under cabinets) that may need cleaning.

Now, regarding battery life, the Hoover HF2 Cordless Vacuum takes 3 and a half hours to charge fully, and the run time is between 10 minutes and 40 minutes, depending on which mode you use.

Speaking of modes, there are three in total: Standard, Eco and Turbo. Standard is said to have 'a high efficiency in cleaning your entire home' and Eco maintains the battery life for lighter cleaning jobs, while Turbo provides 'max power for dirt and difficult areas'. I found it more effective to use turbo mode on carpets and thick rugs to ensure that no dirt was left behind.

The bin had a generous 1-litre capacity and was very compact! When doing a deep clean, it can get full quite quickly (particularly in a home with high footfall, including multiple dogs and people), so it sometimes needs to be emptied after every other use. It's easy enough to do, but when you press the button to open it, it can fly out everywhere, causing a fresh mess.

One of my only qualms is that the Hoover doesn't stand up unaided (like many upright vacuums do) which other testers noted. Yes, it comes with a wall attachment, but if you're in the middle of vacuuming and need to temporarily stop to pick something up, for example, it means you have to lie it on the floor or lean it against furniture.

I appreciate the Anti Hair Wrap feature as it prevents pet fur and longer hair from getting trapped, and its compact size makes it perfect for smaller spaces. While the battery life and dustbin size might limit its use for larger homes or heavy-duty tasks, for quick clean-ups, it’s a solid performer.

It would be handy to have a small digital timer which tells you how much battery life is left as it can be frustrating if it runs out of power whilst you're in the middle of hoovering, but overall, it's an excellent gadget.

If you're looking for a reliable, hassle-free vacuum for lighter cleaning, the Hoover HF2 could be a fantastic choice, particularly as a cordless vacuum for hard floors.
