Key features

Wide drum

The wide drum means the machine is shorter in depth than other machines so it fits in easily under your workspace allowing plenty of room at the back for the plug and the hose. It has an extra large door opening allowing easy loading of the washing.

hOn app

With the IPRO5, there is the option of connecting to the Wi-Fi and downloading the hOn app to enable you to remotely control the washer-dryer from wherever you are. The Washing-Lens function allows you to scan your washing labels to find the best washing cycle for that particular garment. As well as choosing and customising from more than 60 specialised cycles for each type of fabric, you can access convenient tips on stain treatment and tips on the type and quantity of detergent you should be using.

Refresh mode

The I-Refresh program allows you to refresh your clothing by using vapour technology.  This reduces the creases and removes odours leaving the clothing feeling softer and fresher.

Internal light

There is a light inside the drum when the machine is switched on - so no more feeling around for that odd sock that’s escaped!

Testing the Haier I PRO Series 5

Following the installation, the Haier I-Pro Series 5 washer-dryer was trialled over a period of one month using all the functions and features. Each of the washing programs were tested including the dryer and the I-Refresh programs.

As soon as the washer-dryer had been installed, I was keen to put it to the test. The large door opening made it much easier to load the washing into the drum than the standard size found on most machines. At 525cm, the drum diameter offers an impressive washing capacity of up to 10kg and a drying capacity of 6kg. It has an easy to use led light panel which combines a dial and a touch screen - this looks great when it's switched on!

Having previously owned two different branded washing machines where the drum occasionally snagged the clothing, I was keen to see how the Haier I-Pro Series 5 washer-dryer faired in comparison. I was delighted to find that the design of the drum in this machine ensured that this could not happen. The drum is shaped like a waffle design making it impossible for snagging to occur - so there was no more need to be putting our clothes in wash bags to protect them!

For my first test, I chose the appropriate program for the wash cycle and then used the drying function. I was pleased to find that the machine achieved good cleaning results, free of dirt and stains.

Because it operates without a belt, the motor is directly attached to the drum, vastly reducing noise and vibration,

I then decided to try the I-Refresh function on some towels which had previously been dried on a clothes airer and were rough and crispy. These came out much softer, fluffier and fresh smelling.

There is a self-clean function that is useful after using the dryer or the I-Refresh programs. Very often fluff and residue is left behind following the use of these programs so the self-clean function, which lasts eight minutes, leaves the drum clean and ready for use again. I found this particularly useful after washing dog blankets.

As well as the self-clean function, the Haier I PRO Series 5 has Smart Dual Spray, an automatic cleaning system that starts at the end of each wash cycle. As well as providing a more hygienic wash for laundry, Haier also says it'll improve the durability of the machine in the long run.

I wanted the washer-dryer to give good cleaning and drying results - the machine lived up to expectations in both areas. I wanted it to run quietly and smoothly and again, I was not disappointed.

I downloaded the hOn app and paired the machine to connect to the Wi-Fi. This allows you to create a virtual wardrobe of your individual garments.  By scanning the wash label on an item and listing it with the colour, fabric type and a photo of the item a program is then suggested for that item of clothing. You can then gradually build a list to refer to for future reference. You add the garment and set the machine to remote and then start the cycle from your phone.

There is a pre-set list of cycles suggested for different types of wash loads. The list includes many options ranging from cuddly toys, pet accessories, curtains, mats, swimwear and even diving and ski suits. The list includes many more options and is quite extensive. All these individual cycle suggestions are then activated using your phone and the remote option on your machine whilst connected to the Wi-Fi.

Each program also has the option of adding a keep fresh phase at the end of the wash. By activating a gentle movement it keeps the clothes fresh before removing them from the drum.

There are lots of useful tips and hints on the app:

 • Laundry detergent and conditioners - an explanation of what each one is best used for.  From powders to liquid to gels and capsules - it can be quite a minefield when faced with them all on the supermarket shelves!

 • Looking after your appliance and how limescale and water hardness can affect the machine - useful advice.

 • A section on the washing symbols on the labels and their meaning.

 • A garment care section giving helpful hints on looking after your garments.  It includes helping to protect your clothing from stretching, pilling and how to care for delicate items.

 • A stain removal guide detailing how to remove problem stains such as blood, red wine, chewing gum, curry, felt tip, oil, nail varnish and many more.

 • There is also a report showing your previous wash cycles and tells you how energy efficient they have been.

Although the app is not necessary to use the machine, I found this to be an all-round useful app to download and really helpful to help make the most of the Haier I PRO Series 5.

Final verdict

Overall, I am very happy with the Haier I PRO Series 5. It has a smart-looking appearance with the option of a white or grey machine colour, both with a dark grey door. The light-up LED panel is a really nice-looking feature. The drum design is very pleasing - finally, a washer that you can be confident will not damage your clothing.

The price of this washer-dryer is on a par with other higher-end well-known makes and models and seems to be a fair price considering everything it has to offer. It combines a modern look with new technology and features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, the hOn app and the I-Refresh function.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone as it exceeded my expectations and gave very good results.  It’s smart in appearance and will look good in any kitchen.
