Testing the Haier 3D 60 Series 5

"As I sat there scraping at the frost and ice that had built up in our old fridge freezer, I realised it was time for a change. I just didn’t realise how good this change would be.

We picked the Haier 3D 60 Series 5 as it had a variety of features that appealed to us including two sliding freezer draws with ample space, a fridge packed with technology and beautifully designed mechanics and the handy water dispenser on the front. Finding and selecting the product was easy as the website provides all the information you need and it is laid out in a structured and easily digestible fashion so you can comfortably tick off your requirements as you go.

The product was delivered in good time and the drivers were very professional, calling us beforehand to let us know when they were close to our house so we weren't sitting about and waiting during the three-hour delivery slot we had initially been given. I was slightly concerned about how I was going to get the product into the kitchen but the drivers knew exactly what they were doing. It was clear this was not their first rodeo! They gently eased the product into position, set it up and were very happy to explain exactly what my next steps were.

The Haier 3D 60 Series 5 is beautiful to look at. It comes in a metallic silver/grey colour with dark grey accents. The exterior design is not overly complex and it blends nicely into any kitchen setting. The water dispenser works as expected although the tank inside does not hold as high a volume as some other brands but it is certainly enough to last a couple of days before you need to refill which was more than enough for our family personally.

Where the Haier 3D 60 Series 5 really wins you over is inside the fridge itself. On the inside of the door, you have the standard shelves with a variety of space to hold taller products as well as your usual smaller condiments and there are three shelves in the upper half of the fridge.

I was also pleased to see that whilst this product does come with a bottle rack, it can be easily folded away if you don’t need it. This is so much better than previous fridges I have owned where the bottle rack takes up a lot of space and if you don’t want it you have to remove it and store it somewhere in your kitchen.

The middle shelf is another example of mechanical brilliance. The design allows you to quickly and smoothly reduce its depth and I mean completely! The shelf can be half-folded or fully folded making space if you need to store taller items and this is all done without having to remove the shelf. It is these little gems that really make the Haier 3D 60 Series 5 stand out and the draw spaces in the fridge are no exception.

The Haier 3D 60 Series 5 comes with two drawer spaces in the fridge; a “Humidity Zone” and an adjustable “My Zone”. Haier states that the Humidity Zone will keep your fruit and veg fresher for two times longer and we have definitely noticed the difference since we have started using it.

The My Zone drawer is fantastic. It acts as almost a midpoint between your fridge and freezer and has plenty of space to store a variety of products. We have mostly been using this to keep meat products in but a couple of weeks ago I used it to chill some beers and they were ready in no time and perfectly chilled. The My Zone section temperature can be adjusted separately from the rest of the fridge by using the interface on the front or by using the Haier app. The app itself is okay, it is not personally something that I have found a use for since owning this product but it did connect seamlessly and if this is a feature that you need from your fridge freezer then this will more than do the job.

Moving onto the freezer, this is where my dreams come true as there isn’t a hint of frost or ice to be seen! The draws themselves glide smoothly open and make you wonder how you ever managed with the trio of tiny drawers that a lot of older fridge freezers once had. At first glance, we did wonder whether the bucket-like spaces inside each drawer would be big enough but once we filled them up, just like something out of Mary Poppins, it felt like they would never be full!

On top of the lower drawer, there is also a plastic tray that is just big enough to hold your ice cubes and ice lollies so they don’t get in the way of everything else or get squashed. With the Haier 3D 60 Series 5, finding that single bagel you froze the month prior is easy as the drawers give you a full top-down view of every corner of the drawer and there is no hiding."

Final thoughts

"Overall, I would highly recommend the Haier 3D 60 series 5 to anyone who is in the market for a new fridge freezer. A lot of people boast these days about the larger American-style fridge freezers with their double doors and extensive interior volume and they are great! If you have the space… The beauty of the Haier 3D 60 series 5 is that its size is no different to any standard fridge freezer but the way it uses its space intertwined with sleek mechanisms and beautiful design is on a par if not better than some of these larger products on the market and if it takes up less floor space, is that such a bad thing? I have thoroughly enjoyed using this product and I am confident that it will stand the test of time."
