Dyson is well known for their powerful cordless vacuums but does the Dyson Micro 1.5kg live up to its promises of being the most powerful, ultra-lightweight cordless vacuum ever? We got our hands on it to find out.

How did this product make your life easier?
As a young family, we are constantly getting the hoover out and cleaning up after the children. Our other vacuum is an upright- very effective but equally heavy and awkward to use. My wife is heavily pregnant and even carrying our upright upstairs is difficult. This tiny Dyson is remarkably light; we can manoeuvre it anywhere in our home with ease. It really is a game-changer.
The device is great for small particles and general vacuuming, not particularly suited to larger items. For example, we have changed our carpets recently leaving lots of small tufts of carpet and dust. I would not recommend this product for anything other than light work as the small container filled and clogged easily, whereas our upright coped with it absolutely fine. I was however very impressed with its power capabilities considering its compact frame.
The max power button is a nice touch, which came in especially handy when trying to vacuum tight spaces that the normal mode has little effect on. I used this mode along skirting boards and in our car around our car seats and mats, it’s a nice touch that makes all the difference.
The vacuum came with 4 attachments which we felt were very well thought out. The Mini Motorised Tool attachment was great for all our vinyl flooring and tiles while the Soft Roller Cleaner Head was used the most frequently and was especially effective on stairs and when needing to simply have a quick vacuum to freshen up. It can be used either with or without the extension pole so lots of bases are covered. A nice addition to the Combination Tool was the integration of a scrubbing device which could be easily moved up or down depending if it was in use or not.
Despite claiming a run time of up to 20 minutes I actually found it to run longer than this. Either way, we found this to be ample time to clean every room in the house on one charge. We had set up the docking station on our wall in our utility room so after any usage it was back in its cradle to charge. As the device used Lithium-Ion cells we could charge as much or as little as we needed without worrying about memory loss to the battery.
In summary, we no longer required a large bulky upright vacuum for everyday use which meant more space in our downstairs cupboard, no carrying it upstairs for my wife. We had this small device for almost every scenario we encountered during our testing period. The obvious advantage of not having to play with a long power cable became apparent only when using our upright on the odd occasion! The docking station is cleverly designed so every attachment fits onto it so no parts can be misplaced, something we’ve been guilty of in the past. Emptying the device after every use meant it was always ready to go, unlike our upright which uses bags.
Would you choose this product above all others on the market?
Despite there being several similarly priced vacuums available with similar features I would sway towards this device. Although I haven’t used any others I feel confident in Dyson as a brand. When comparing specifics online this machine seems the most balanced, considering its basis of being as light as possible. Also, I know from experience Dyson has excellent customer service which is massively important to me.
Would you recommend this product?
It is a very well thought out device that I would highly recommend to anyone wanting an exceptionally lightweight vacuum for light use in a small to medium-sized property. It is equally suited to be used for vehicles or even for caravans due to its micro size and high power. I would personally use it alongside another more powerful and larger vacuum cleaner to cover all cleaning scenarios around the home, but if you’re unlikely to need a device for larger particles then you could definitely use this full time.
It’s aesthetically pleasing and great for a quick blast around the living room. Plus it is actually quite enjoyable to use. There is a satisfying sound when you turn it off, most likely the turbines coming to a halt, which oozes quality. It’s so light it can be used in every room, under sofas and tables and even above your head for shelving or bookcases.
What changes would you make to this product?
As the product has been designed around being as light as possible it is difficult to see any way it could be improved without compromising on additional weight. I think performance-wise you are getting everything you can out of such a small device.
One small thing which would improve charging would be to plug the power lead into the docking station rather than the vacuum so when the device was in the dock it would charge automatically. However, this would not stop me from purchasing this product.
