There's a lot to love about dried flowers. Unlike fresh blooms, they're long-lasting, 100 per cent natural, low maintenance and great value for money. And we reckon they can be just as beautiful as fresh flowers too, with so many gorgeous options to choose from that will suit your home all year round.

We spoke to Amelia Harker, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Pampas & Bloom to find out more about these sustainable beauties and have rounded up our favourite dried flower arrangements available for you to buy.

Do dried flowers last forever?

With the right care, dried flowers can last forever, yes - they’re super low maintenance so are perfect for those who are less green-fingered!

How to look after dried flowers

To ensure a long lifetime, it’s really important that your dried flowers stay dry and are placed somewhere still, out of reach and out of direct sunlight. Sadly that means if you’d like your bunch to last we don’t recommend wet rooms or windowsills. If they start to gather dust over time, you can (very gently) shake or brush the stems with a soft-bristled brush.

How to dry flowers

Lots of flower stems are suitable for drying - all you need to do is gather them in small bunches of 3-4 stems, secure them at the base with twine or an elastic band and hang them upside down in a cool, dry place for at least 10 days.

What flowers are the best flowers for drying?

So many flowers and grasses are suitable for drying, which is great if you want a special fresh flower bouquet to last a long time.

The best way to find out which is your favourite is to take your existing bouquet, grab a bunch from your local supermarket, pick some from your garden or on a dog walk and try it out following the steps above.

You’ll find that some work better than others, some hold their shape very well, some crumble easily, some are sturdy and some lose their colour. For guaranteed results, I’d start with something like Gypsophelia.

How to arrange dried flowers

The first thing we do when arranging a dried flower bunch is to choose our vessel - this determines how tall each stem will be and gives clues to the composition of the bunch. If we’re working with a tall and narrow vase, we’ll work vertically and if we’re working with a shorter & broader vase, we’ll work horizontally.

We start with the larger stems, usually Pampas or Ruscus, cutting them to size which builds an outline of the arrangement. We then follow with the base of our bunch, maybe Broom Bloom or Miscanthus to add some body. We finish by adding some smaller stems as focal points, such as Mini Daisies or Bunny Tails to complete the look.
