Finding time in your busy schedule to practice mindfulness can be tough. We have jobs, families, and social lives, and the constant use of modern technology - we're overloaded! One way to ensure you do get some time to yourself is to dedicate a certain area of your home to your wellness. Calming home products can help you disconnect, take a breath, and unwind to promote a calm, mindful state of being.

From the way it's decorated to what you have in there, we've brought together some great pieces and ideas for you. So, use it to create that perfect, specific place where you can switch off and just be present for a little while.

Now sit back and relax...

How to create a relaxing space in your home

When choosing that space to truly relax we recommend the following to create the most calming home environment:

• Avoid fluorescent lighting and take cues from nature with natural sunlight

• Have a phone/laptop ban to help you disconnect and relax

• Keep the area free of clutter - as they say, a cluttered space equals a cluttered mind!

• Ensure it has a device to play your favourite sounds or music

• Add some greenery to your space, whether that's plants or fresh-cut flowers. Plants have also a range of well-being benefits including improved mood, reduced anxiety, air purification for cleaner air, and boosted healing.

• Have items to hand in the space that relax you or bring you joy. That could be used if you want a bit of escapism, colouring pencils and colouring books for mindfulness, or an eye mask to help you close your eyes to enjoy an audiobook, music, or podcast.

• If you're looking to turn a larger room into a calm space, try using the practices of Feng Shui. Rearrange your furniture and bring openness and balance to your living room or bedroom.

So whether it's a meditation spot in your office or a whole zen bathroom, these products will help you to achieve true guru status.

Which colours promote a sense of calm?

Blue is one of the best colours to promote relaxation. It can be especially helpful for stress management and is synonymous with the sky and sea.

Green is associated with refreshment, peace, and rest, synonymous with nature and the lush green of trees, plants, and forests. It's also associated with health, healing, and luck, perfect for your space meant for wellness.

White is bright and can make spaces look larger by capitalising on natural light. In Feng Shui, it's a powerful colour for creating harmony and symbolises freshness, cleanliness, and fresh beginnings.

Teal blends the healing qualities of green and the restfulness of blue, giving the best of both world

Brown - Softer tones, can create feelings of warmth, comfort, security, and a feeling of being down-to-earth.

Pastel colours - A great way to introduce more vibrancy to space, with the softer pastel colours being more peaceful, soothing, and evoking feelings of tranquillity and openness.

Environmental psychologist and wellbeing consultant Lee Chambers told the interior experts Stelrad, that these "cooler colours such as blues, greens, and browns, that are prevalent in nature, are destimulating and grounding, and can promote a sense of serenity and feeling of safety. These colours can be regenerative to our wellbeing. They can reduce our stress levels and promote calm confidence to explore in a mindful way.”
