National Allotments Week started back in 2002 as a way of raising awareness of allotments and the role they play in helping people to live healthier lifestyles, grow their own food, develop friendships and bolster communities.
18 years later, the campaign week continues to thrive and interest in growing your own fruit and vegetables has never been stronger since the WW2 Grow for Victory campaign.
The National Allotment Society
Creators of National Allotments Week, The National Allotment Society (NAS) is a not-for-profit organisation upholding the interests and rights of the allotment community across the UK.
They work with the government, other organisations and landlords to provide, promote and preserve allotments for everyone. They offer support, guidance and advice to both their members and those with an interest in allotment gardening.
NAS offers membership to individuals, allotment associations, schools, local authorities and landowners. Membership fees are £23 per year for individual members. Find out more here.
When is National Allotments Week 2021?
This year, the week takes place August 9 to August 15.

There will also be a series of online talks that will be held at 3pm each afternoon of National Allotments Week, 90 minutes in length, including a Q and A session. Log-in is via zoom, register your interest with diane@nsalg.org.uk who will then send you the link.
