We're very lucky in the UK that there is a large range of brilliant (and largely free) Christmas markets across the country. With so many to visit, we've rounded up our pick of the best markets to visit in 2022.
Bath Christmas market
From November 24 to December 11, the quaint streets and square between the stunning Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths are transformed into a Christmas shopper's haven for Bath's Christmas market with more than 170 traditional wooden chalets selling all sorts of goodies.
From unique homeware to personalised presents, Christmas decorations, handcrafted jewellery and more, you’re guaranteed to find something special for your loved ones which you can shop directly from the makers.
With the chance to shop from so many local creatives, you can tick off everything on your Christmas list and feel reassured that you’re supporting small businesses.
There will also be an exciting programme of events happening in Bath in the run-up to Christmas, including music and entertainment, street stalls and artisan food, meaning you can still discover the magic of Bath this Christmas.
Belfast Christmas market
At Belfast Christmas market, visitors are invited to sample tastes from around the world and ride the carousel outside the famous City Hall. The market, which is running from November 28 until December 22, has long been a centrepiece of Belfast's Christmas time.
Sip on a warming mug of hot Glühwein, feast on hog roast or indulge in some mouth-watering Belgian chocolates, baklava and crêpes. You can also sample speciality cheeses and savour the delicate flavours of meats from across the continent.
Frankfurt Christmas market, Birmingham
The biggest market of its type outside of Germany and Austria, Birmingham’s festive offeringis well worth a visit to stock up on gifts, decorations and German food including tasty bratwurst and glühwein.
Running from November 3 to December 23, you'll be able to find a huge range of tempting foods to try, live music and plenty of things to buy.
The market, which attracts around 5 million visitors a year, marks the start of the festive season and it's a great place to meet up with loved ones ahead of the big day.
Chatsworth Christmas market
Although it's unfortunately now over, Chatsworth Christmas market ran from November 5 – 23. It had over 100 stalls, from Christmas decor and wreaths to jewellery and delectable eats, there really was something for everyone.
Edinburgh Christmas market
Edinburgh’s Christmas Market is returning this year, running from November 25 - January 4 and it's set to be a celebration of its creative community and support local businesses to bring festive cheer to people across Edinburgh.
There are plenty of traditional chalets selling everything from local and bespoke products and gifts to tasty treats, visiting the market is a must this year, and there's no better way to get in the festive mood.
Take a trip on the Forth 1 Big Wheel which provides breathtaking views of Edinburgh’s winter skyline and the markets below. There's also the Christmas Tree Maze, traditional rides and the all-important Santa’s Stories for any little ones in attendance.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
Located in the heart of London in Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland allows visitors to immerse themselves in all things festive for six weeks from November 18 to January 2.
There are loads of rides, an ice skating rink, shows, food and drink stalls, plus the chance to meet Santa! Tickets are free if you visit off-peak, otherwise, you'll be looking at paying between £5-£7.50 for entry.
Lincoln Christmas market
The oldest traditional market in the UK, Lincoln market first opened in 1982 with just 11 stalls. Now there are hundreds to browse, nestled in and around the city’s cathedral and castle.
Although it only takes place over a weekend (December 1 - December 4), there's plenty on offer at this famous market.
Visitors are invited to take a look at what's on offer at the 150 stalls nestled within the medieval square and surrounding area.
Manchester Christmas market
Returning to the city of Manchester for 2022 is their famous Christmas market. Boasting 220 stalls, at the famous food stalls you'll find German sausages and Gluhwein, as well as the famous Yorkshire pudding wrap on offer plus plenty of places to buy handmade gifts.
This year, the market will be taking place until December 22.
Nottingham Winter Wonderland
This free event can be found in the heart of the city. The market features bespoke traditional trading cabins, with an array of festive gifts and treats. There'll also be various rides, an ice bar and ski chalet bar, filled with oozing raclette cheese, hanging kebabs, sliders and seasoned fries.
Visit between November 15 - December 31.
Swansea Christmas market
Taking place from November 25 – December 21, Swansea Christmas Market is returning for 2022!
The market is full of talented crafters, traditional traders and delicious street food vendors offering a brilliant selection of unique gifts, tempting treats and beautiful decorations.
Winchester Christmas market
Set in the picturesque location of Winchester Cathedral, thousands of people visit each year to enjoy the festivities as part of their Christmas tradition.
It will be taking place from November 18 - December 22 this year and it's recognised as one of the best markets in Europe.
Visitors can expect to enjoy the full festive experience with a wide range of different stalls, the sound of Christmas carols and the aroma of mulled wine.
York Christmas Festival
The city of York will be full of Christmas cheer this year as the hugely popular St Nicholas Fair will return to the city, marking its 30th anniversary this year.
With charming alpine chalets, local businesses will be selling everything from handmade gifts and delicious treats from November 17 to December 23.
