When looking for a new place to stay in the capital, I visited the Mercure and Ibis London Earls Court Hotel, which has recently co-located as a dual-branded property following a multi-million-pound refurbishment.
Situated in West London, just 3.4 miles from the city centre, the hotel is slightly outside the hustle and bustle of busy city life but is only a short tube ride away from touristy areas, making it the ideal place for a short staycation or for newcomers wanting to see a slightly calmer side of London.
Mercure and Ibis London Earls Court's nearest tube station
The Ibis London Earls Court and the Mercure London Earls Court are located in West London, 2 minutes from West Brompton and 5 minutes from Earls Court underground station (District and Piccadilly lines). Thus, you can quickly reach major tourist attractions like the Natural History Museum, Buckingham Palace, and Covent Garden.
If you fancy grabbing a bite to eat or doing some shopping, Westfield is only 15 minutes away by tube! Or you can get to central London in half and hour to do some sightseeing or witness some of the best plays and musicals.
Car parking
For those wishing to travel to the hotel via car, there's a car park to the back of the property.
Accommodation
Both the bedroom and bathroom are decorated stylishly, with modern touches and some backlighting to add some brightness. The bed was comfy and the shower was easy to use, which (as well as cleanliness) is the main things you could ask for in a hotel, right?
There are plug sockets and charging facilities near the bed, if you need to charge your mobile phone or portable charger ready for a day of adventures.
Food and drink
After a jam-packed day of activities, including a visit to the bustling Westfield Shopping Centre, which was just a short tube ride away, we fancied a quiet night, so we stayed in the hotel and enjoyed a delicious meal at Barnaby's, the hotel's restaurant.
While the menu was a bit sparse, there was a pleasant selection of dishes to choose from. In the end, I chose the Pan Fried Corn Fed Chicken with carrot purée, braised red cabbage, baby leek and a salsa verde drizzle, while my sister enjoyed the Seafood Paccheri Pasta which included prawns, clams, mussels and cherry tomatoes, topped with a langoustine.
You can also put your feet up and enjoy a drink at Barnaby's Lounge & Bar. From soft drinks to cocktails, this is the place to kick back and chat.
For breakfast, there's a self-service buffet in operation and there's also 24-hour room service if you get a bit peckish!
Amenities at the Mercure and ibis London Earls Court Hotel
If you're looking to hold an event, the hotel has versatile meeting spaces which can accommodate over 1,200 guests and there's also a Grand Ballroom (for up to 800 guests) which is great for evening functions and entertainment.
Final thoughts
As someone who loves visiting London, I'm always looking for affordable, clean, and tidy places to stay, and the Mercure and Ibis London Earls Court Hotel ticked all the boxes. The staff were welcoming and the room was spacious.
We both agreed that food-wise, it would've been good to have a bit more choice on the dinner menu, but as we were only staying for one night, that didn't matter too much.
Location-wise, both hotels are well-situated in Earls Court, close to public transport links, and provide solid options for different types of travellers.
Price-wise, Classic Double Rooms at Mercure London Earls Court Hotel start at £149 per night (room only), while Classic Double Rooms at ibis London Earls Court Hotel start at £109 per night (room only).
