What is Hogwarts In The Snow?

From the 15th November 2025 to the 18th January 2026 Christmas comes to The Making Of Harry Potter, at Warner Bros. Studios in Watford. Everything is given a fabulous festive makeover from the Hogwarts Castle that is meticulously dusted in white snow to the Great Hall which is bedecked with Christmas trees, golden decorations and a truly festive banquet.
Take a walk through the eerie Forbidden Forest, where the woodlands are covered in snow, or stroll down Diagon Alley with its traditional snowy shop fronts and cobbled stones. Its also a great opportunity to stop by the Christmas Harry Potter shop which is filled with a selection of Christmas gifts, souvenirs, and stocking fillers for all budding Potter fans.

Throughout the tour you can be completely immersed in the magical of Harry Potter, learning incredible facts about the making of the films including how the never-melting snow was created by the set decorators for the film series using three various materials, each serving a different purpose onscreen.

Our review of Hogwarts In The Snow

The first thing to mention is how easy it is to get to The Warner Bros Studio. As it's not central London there's a number of different routes you can take to get there. It's easily accessible by road from the M1/A1 or M25, or if visiting by train you can get a free shuttle bus from Watford Junction train station that will take you straight to the studio tour. These run every 30 mins and the journey time is about 15 mins.

I had never visited Warner Bros. Studios before so it's hard to tell you if I think visiting during a special seasonal events like Christmas or Halloween is better than during the normal time of the year. However, I did speak to many people who'd visited multiple times and really rated coming for the Hogwarts in the Snow event. They told me that often new displays are added so there's always something fresh to see.
We visited at night and spent about two hours going round the tour. I must admit we did rush through some parts, but purely because of lack of time. However, we could have spent so much longer exploring. The staff are amazing and love sharing interesting insider knowledge of the films, many of the displays are incredibly interactive, especially the one that allows you to move Dobby's body as if it were your own and the Mandrakes that make noises as you pull them out of the soil.
There's also the opportunity to put yourself on the big screen and act out a scene on the Hogwarts Express. You'll be given directions and filmed like a real actor. There's also several green screens where you can do your best wizarding perch on a broom and by the magic of photography be transposed into a game of quidditch or fly high on a broomstick whizzing past Hogwarts Castle.

All of these activities are (and more) are available all year round, and I would thoroughly recommend a visit to the The Making Of Harry Potter tour at any time of the year. Even if you're not a huge fan of the films, there's so many interesting things to learn.
Below, are the things that you can expect to see when you book a ticket specifically for Hogwarts In The Snow.

The Forbidden Forest

This gets a good sprinkling of snow, making it even more eerie than usual. Even Hagrid and the animated Hippogriff are dusted in the white stuff! Try not to jump when the giant spiders descend from the walls!

Diagon Alley

This is totally transformed into a picture postcard Dickensian-style street. The snow used here looks incredibly lifelike. It almost looks like it's actually wet! The floor, window panes, ledges and window sills are all decorated in snow- making this magical display even more special.

Hogwarts Castle

From the minute your eyes lay upon the castle you can't help but be amazed. This incredibly detailed model has been so carefully dusted in snow, it's hard to believe it's not real. Sitting high on a bed of snow-capped hills the castle is resplendent from every angle. Clever lighting is used to further highlight the details.

You'll also get the opportunity to feel the different types of snow that have been used throughout the tour. Each type is made in a different way, some using tiny pieces of shredded paper, some with salt or polystyrene. The team will also explain the highly intricate process of removing the snow from the castle. The set is closed for a number of weeks while the snow is brushed and blown off to make sure nothing is damaged!

Final verdict

I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Hogwarts In The Snow, it gives this already wonderful tour a real festive and magical spin. This would make a wonderful gift for any Harry Potter fan or even a great family day in the lead up to Christmas. Make sure you allow plenty of time to walk around as there's so much to see and do. Be sure to stop at the Butterbeer Bar to grab yourself a creamy drink. And of course leave time to browse the huge shop afterwards, featuring every Harry Potter themed gift you can think of.
