These days, garden centres offer so much more than plants and gardening tools. At many UK garden centres, you'll find gorgeous homeware, brilliant gift ideas and not to mention, a cafe you could spend all day in!

If you're looking to spend your day getting lost in one of Britain's best garden centres, and want to find somewhere new to explore, we've rounded up some of the best garden centres in the UK that you might not have had the chance to visit yet.

At these garden centres, you'll find plenty of parking, loads of things to browse, some tasty treats at the cafe and you might even come away with something new for your home and garden.

South East

Burford garden company, Oxfordshire

Burford is renowned in the area for being one of the best garden centres for a day out. There's so much to do including home interiors, gardening, outdoor living, a reading room, art gallery, play areas and a food hall.

Opening hours: 9am – 6pm Mondays to Saturdays and 11am – 5:00pm on Sundays

London

Petersham Nurseries, Covent Garden and Richmond

There are two chains of the Petersham Nurseries, one in Covent Garden and one in Richmond. Both garden centres offer a range of gardening supplies, plants and homewares, as well as having a cafe, tearooms and food shop.

Opening hours: Open Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 5pm and on Sunday's 11am - 5pm.

North West

Barton Grange, Preston

From the special events to the farm shop, there's plenty going on at Barton Grange garden centre. As well as plenty of plants, expert staff on hand to advise you and a lovely little cafe, there's also a cook shop at the garden centre where you'll find all the cookware you'll ever need!

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 9am to 5.30pm and Sunday 10.30am to 4.30pm (Doors open at 10am for browsing)

Foundry Plant Centre, Norwich

A brilliant garden centre for the avid gardener, you'll find all sorts of plants, lawn care, outdoor furniture, bird care and more, as well as a coffee shop serving a selection of home made cakes and treats.

Opening hours: Spring and summer: Monday to Saturday: 8.30am - 5pm Sundays: 9am - 4pm and Autumn and Winter: Monday - Saturday: 8.30am - 4pm and Sundays 9am - 4pm.

West Midlands

Hall's garden centre, Sutton Coldfield

This family run garden centre stocks everything from plants and flowers to sheds and greenhouses, not forgetting gardening gifts and ideas. You'll also be able to enjoy a tasty treat while you're there in The Garden Room, where breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea is served daily.

Opening hours: Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm, Sunday 9am - 4pm (last food orders at 3pm every day)

South West

Otter Garden Centres, Devon, Somerset and Hampshire

The popular Otter Garden Centres are dotted around the Devon, Somerset and Hampshire area, with a centre in Ottery St Mary, Lymington, Plymouth, Torquay, Wincanton, Jack's Patch and Taunton. Each garden centre offers a huge range of plants, bulbs, pots and garden furniture, as well as a lovely coffee shop you can take a break in.

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday: 9am – 5.30pm, Sunday: 10am – 4pm (opening times vary depending on which branch you visit so check the website before visiting)

Yorkshire and the Humber

This family run garden centre is well worth a visit for a look around the historic gardens and the three different cafes. You'll also find a huge range of gardening tools, everything you need for landscaping your space and bird care supplies too. There's also events running throughout the year, and in the winter you can enjoy a spot of ice skating while you're there.

East Bridgford Garden & Home, Nottingham

Part of the Blue Diamond family, East Bridgford is the home of their flagship garden centre store, and you can easily spend a good few hours exploring the huge store. With two beautiful restaurants and plenty of garden, home and fashion to browse, you won't know where to start.

Lanchester Garden Centre, Durham

Lanchester is a brilliant day out for the whole family, with plenty for the little ones to get up to as well as the grown ups. You'll find a beautiful selection of plants, furniture and garden supplies as well as a restaurant, extensive gift shop, children’s play area, aquatics department, tropical village and even a zoo to explore and enjoy.
