Is there a bank holiday for the Coronation?

The official date of King Charles' Coronation is Saturday 6 May. However, to give everyone an opportunity to join in with the events of the Coronation, Monday 8 May has been made a Bank Holiday by the Government. This means that we have three days of celebrations to enjoy.

What is happening on Coronation weekend?

The Coronation celebrations are starting on Saturday with a service at Westminster Abbey. This is where Charles will read the Coronation oath to confirm his acceptance of becoming King. Although, he has officially been King since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last year.
Sunday 7 May sees a Coronation Concert broadcast live at Windsor Castle, while Monday sees the start of The Big Help Out to inspire people to take part in a spot of volunteering in their local area.
And of course, people can expect to see plenty of street parties to celebrate, with the King hoping it'll encourage neighbourhoods to come together to celebrate as part of The Coronation Big Lunch.
