Last year we all mourned the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and celebrated her remarkable life and service. But Prince Charles, while still reeling from the loss of his ‘dear Mama’, was immediately thrust into the role he had been preparing for his entire life.

He has lived under the weight of his destiny from the moment he was born, living his life in public view, the press have recorded every happiness and tragedy, every triumph and misstep of his life.

When the crown is placed on the head of King Charles III on 6 May, it will be a hugely symbolic moment, rich in traditions and pageantry. It will also be a time for celebration and for Charles, it represents the culmination of a lifetime of duty spent in service to this country and the Commonwealth.

To mark the occasion, this special commemorative issue looks back over Charles’ remarkable life to get a sense of the man behind the title, to understand what drives him and his vision for the future of the monarchy.

Plus discover the latest on the plans for the Coronation day and a look back at the brilliantly British pomp and ceremony of the past events.
