With the final episode having aired back in May 2021, many fans are wondering whether or not TV drama Line of Duty will be returning to screens at some point in the future for a series 7?

Will there be another season of Line of Duty?

“Another series is happening. This is the news millions of fans have been hoping for,” an insider told Daily Star.

“A lot of stuff still needs to be agreed and it is likely to take a while. Fans will probably have to wait a few years before it airs on TV.”

Director of Drama for the BBC Piers Wenger said: “Of course, we're all massive fans of the show - we'd like to see both of them return. Jed is thinking [about it] but I can't really say much more than that. He hasn't committed to writing either of them.”

Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet by the BBC, it’s hard to believe that it won’t be recommissioned considering how popular the show has been, with an impressive 12.8 million viewers tuning in to watch the final episode.

When will series 7 be out?

Traditionally, a new series of Line of Duty has been released every two years in March. Meaning, that if there is to be a series 7, fans can expect to see it by March 2023.

What will happen in series 7?

Despite writer Jed Mercurio sharing that he knows exactly how the story will end, we’re no clearer on whether this conclusion is the one that occurred in the season six finale.

While we now know who H is, there is still plenty of other scenarios that could still be explored, including whether or not the evidence of systemic corruption can be used in court.

Chief Constable Philip Osborne still continues to be in charge and with his own shady background, will AC-12 make bringing him down their next mission?

We'd love to discover if Kate Fleming returns to the team and whether Patricia Carmichael takes full control of the newly-merged team after Hastings' forced retirement - or if the Gaffer continues to stick around.

Who will be in Line Of Duty series 7?

Again, nothing has been confirmed when it comes to the cast either, but surely the show wouldn’t be able to go on without Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), Kate Fleming and Steve Arnott (Martin Compston)?

We mustn’t however forget that Hastings is on track to retire from duty and Steve’s attempts to transfer teams may hint that their future in the unit is uncertain.

And let’s not also forget that the AC-12 unit is under threat from the likes of Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) who is keen to reduce the anti-corruption team.

Other characters we’d love to see return are Chloe Bishop (Shalom Brune-Franklin), who fit perfectly into the team as a new addition. We can't see Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) sticking around though after entering witness protection in the last episode of series 6.
