With nearly 40 years in the entertainment industry, Wendi Peters has learned to embrace the unpredictable nature of acting.

"It's a very hard business to be in," Wendi exclusively tells Yours. "Thankfully, I'm quite resilient. I've had my fair share of knockbacks, and while it never gets easier, you just learn to brush it off. Things happen for a reason—if something doesn't work out, there's always something else around the corner."

The former Coronation Street star, best known for playing Cilla Battersby-Brown, has built an incredibly diverse career. From narrating Channel 5’s Happy Campers to starring in theatre productions, Wendi thrives on variety. She recently left Doctors after a year, has participated in countless gameshows (she jokes that she’s raring to take on Anne Hegerty from The Chase) and is currently starring in GLORIOUS! at Hope Mill Theatre, portraying Florence Foster Jenkins—the American socialite and offbeat soprano made famous by Meryl Streep.

"There’s a knack to playing Florence, who famously couldn’t sing," Wendi explains. "It’s tricky because you have to sing badly—but without looking like you’re trying to sing badly! It’s fun and really interesting."

Wendi Peters: Finding Love Again

In 2023, Wendi’s personal life made headlines after her split from husband Kenny Linden, whom she married in 1993. But love found her again in an unexpected way—meeting Gareth Wale online at the suggestion of friends.

"I wasn’t really looking for love, but I didn’t rule it out," Wendi shares. "Gareth and I clicked straight away. We have different opinions on some things, but overall, we want the same things from life—and we have so much fun."

Since getting together, Gareth has helped broaden Wendi’s interests, especially when it comes to music.

"I used to be all about musical theatre, but Gareth has got me into a much more eclectic mix. I’ve also discovered the joy of big music concerts, not just for the music but the whole atmosphere. I’m really excited to see Billy Joel in June and ELO in July!"

What’s Next for Wendi Peters?

Although fans may be disappointed that Cilla Battersby-Brown isn’t set to return to Coronation Street anytime soon ("Never say never!"), Wendi has plenty to keep her busy.

"I'd love to do more traveling—New Zealand, Australia, Japan are all on my list. But being self-employed, it’s hard to plan too far ahead. Every time I think about booking something, an opportunity comes up!"

For now, Wendi is focusing on theatre, family, and settling into her new home.

"I never turn down great opportunities, but when I do have downtime, I’ll be making my new house feel more like home—and of course, spending time with loved ones."
