If you're missing The Crown, then we have some good news for you. News has been revealed of an upcoming film, Spencer, starring American actress Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana. Diana fans will of course know that the name of the film is Princess Diana's maiden name, and the film is set to follow a very short yet important moment in Diana's life which changed her path. Here's everything we know so far.
Who will be starring in Spencer?
Although very little has been revealed about the film, we do know there is a star-studded cast set to make an appearance in the movie. As well as Kristen Stewart (who you may know from the Twilight films and Charlie's Angels to name a few), Timothy Spall (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and Sean Harris (The Borgias) are also set to star in the film, however we don't yet know who they'll be playing.
Despite Kristen Stewart not being many people's first choice to play Diana, we must say, she most definitely looks the part in the photos we have seen. The accent could be a trickier skill to master however, and in an interview with InStyle Kristen spoke about trying to perfect Diana's distinct voice.
"The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it's so, so distinct and particular," she said. "I'm working on it now and already have my dialect coach."
What is the plot?
We know the film will focus on one very important weekend in Diana's life, when she realised her marriage to Prince Charles was over. It will take a deeper look at how Diana dealt with her feelings, her love for her sons and the Royal Family during these few important days.
And if you think this will just be a slightly different version of The Crown, you're wrong. Writer Steven Knight (who also wrote Peaky Blinders) purposely didn't watch The Crown because he didn't want it to influence his writing.
When will it be out?
Spencer is set to hit the US cinemas on Friday, 5 November, following its premier at the Venice International Film Festival on 3 September. A UK date is still yet to be confirmed, however we’re hoping it won’t be too far behind and at the latest should hit UK cinemas by early 2022.
