It's likely you've seen Princess Alexandra the Honourable Lady Ogilvy at many Royal occasions over the years. As the late Queen Elizabeth's first cousin, she was even a bridesmaid for the young Princess Elizabeth at her wedding to Prince Philip.

Princess Alexandra's early life

Born Christmas Day 1936 to Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, her father was brothers with Queen Elizabeth II's father, King George VI. At the time of her birth, Princess Alexandra was sixth in line to the throne but as it stands, she is 57th in line to the throne.

She is one of three and the only girl amongst her siblings. Her brothers are Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent.

Rather than being homeschooled, she became the first ever British Princess to attend a school. She studied at Heathfield School, a boarding school near Ascot.

Princess Alexandra's husband

In 1963, she married Angus Ogilvy. Also from nobility, he was the second son of the Earl of Airlie. Their wedding took place at Westminster Abbey and was attended by senior members of the Royal Family.

As a working member of the royal family, she is patron to over 100 charities and organisations with a particular interest in healthcare and helping those with physical and mental illnesses.

She is also a patron of the arts, with a particular interest in the classical arts.

Representing the royal family

Throughout the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Alexandra would often be found standing in for the monarch and representing her family on the world stage with official engagements around the globe.
