Netflix has recently unveiled the cast for its forthcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation, generating a significant buzz among fans.
With its sharp wit, timeless social commentary, and the iconic romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice has not only inspired countless adaptations but also helped shape the modern romance genre. Over the years, we've been captivated by memorable portrayals, from Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle to Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.
Now, it’s time for author Dolly Alderton (winner of the National Book Award for her debut novel (Everything I Know About Love) to bring a fresh take to the screen. Partnering with director Euros Lyn (known for his work on Heartstopper), they are ready to offer a new vision of this beloved classic in a six-part series.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” writer Dolly Alderton told Netflix.
“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm.
"In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

Leading the Pride and Prejudice Netflix cast is Emma Corrin (who's best known for playing young Princess Diana in The Crown) as the fiercely intelligent Elizabeth Bennet, with Jack Lowden (from Slow Horses) stepping into the role of the enigmatic Mr. Darcy. Olivia Colman, fresh off a string of acclaimed performances, brings her signature brilliance to the role of Mrs. Bennet.
Speaking of the renowned role, Emma (who has also starred in a Netflix adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover in 2022) said, “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
