Doc Martin and Men Behaving Badly actor Martin Clunes is set to star in Out There, a new gripping ITV drama which delves into the world of rural drug dealing.

Set in the bucolic Welsh countryside, the show follows Nathan Williams (Clunes), a farmer whose land has been in the family for generations. After the death of his wife, Sabine, two years ago, he's now a single parent to his teenage son Johnny (Louis Ashbourne Serkis, the son of actors Andy Serkis and Lorraine Ashbourne), and his life is filled with relentless grief, and he works hard to numb the pain.

However, as county line dealers start encroaching on his property, he feels the urge to step out of his comfort zone and do whatever it takes to defend his land and his son after they are threatened by local county line dealers.

What is Out There about?

Here's the official synopsis: "Martin Clunes plays Nathan Williams, a man who runs a farm which has been in his family for generations, caught in a numbing rhythm of work and grief following the death of his wife, Sabine, two years previously.

"A single parent to teenager Johnny, played by Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Nathan is uniquely placed and possesses enough pent-up energy to take on the gangs that threaten to engulf his son.

"Consequently, he embarks on a personal journey that will take him ever further out of his comfort zone into a dark alternative world as he fights to protect his family, his homestead and his legacy.

"He’s missed all the clues that the country idyll around him has been fatally compromised, contaminated by waves of criminality spreading and mutating virus-like from the city.

"Now Nathan must accept that the rustic atmosphere of his childhood is long gone, replaced by something altogether more perilous. And the only way for Nathan to survive in this brave new world is to learn the rules and fight back."

Martin Clunes said in an interview with ITV: "There is this collision with the world of county lines drug dealing that has sort of tricked Johnny, his son, into carrying things around and being peripherally involved with the drugs market, which is not something he goes into willingly.

"He gets conned into it, and drags that world into the rural farming community. It is really at odds. It is an industry that is constantly looking for new markets and it is quite shocking to see it crashing into this agricultural world and into this delicate father son relationship."
