Where does Molly Vevers live?
Although Molly Vevers currently calls London home, her roots trace back to Cardiff, where she was born, and North Berwick, the Scottish town where she spent her formative years. Despite her connection to both places, Molly expresses a particular fondness for Cardiff, describing it as the city where she feels most herself. Talking to the East Lothian Courier, she fondly reminisced about her Scottish upbringing, saying, "It was a good place to grow up – there used to be an amateur dramatic society, and they did the musicals and the plays. I watched [my parents] do that, and it certainly sparked an interest in me, even though at that age I still felt quite shy."
How did Molly Vevers get her role in Call The Midwife?
In a conversation with What To Watch, Molly shared her excitement about landing the role of Sister Catherine. "Joining something that’s so loved is thrilling," she remarked. Upon securing the role, she delved into the show's history, becoming a self-professed superfan. "The show's magic lies in its exploration of love—family, friendship, community—alongside hard-hitting themes. Having been a nanny between acting roles, working around babies was a part I eagerly anticipated," she added.
Playing a midwife with no medical background presented its own set of challenges, and Molly sought to immerse herself in her character fully. "I explored documentaries and books about modern women who embark on the journey of becoming nuns," Molly explained, fascinated by the human aspect of her character. "Film and TV often portray nuns almost saintly, but I wanted to capture the realism of a woman my age with doubts and complexities."
Who is Call The Midwife's Sister Catherine?
Before setting foot in Nonnatus House, Sister Catherine served as a nurse in a children's hospital and shares a profound connection with young ones. Her journey is marred by internal conflict regarding becoming a nun—a decision her non-religious family struggles to comprehend. Originally named Sandra, she finds herself estranged from her family upon entering the church. According to a BBC teaser, "As Catherine draws closer to taking her First Vows, her fear grows. Is this the right path? Can a life devoted to God and strangers justify the heartache caused to those who cherished her?"
