If you’re a true crime enthusiast, then you need to clear your diary on Wednesday evenings. At 10pm tonight CBS Reality, the home to expert-led true crime programming, are premiering another fascinating and original series: “Killers: Caught on Camera.” Whether you’re a longstanding true crime afficionado or are just discovering the genre, CBS Reality is the place for you. Always factual, always true.

“Killers: Caught on Camera” is an eye-opening series that showcases the power of technology to solve the most heinous of crimes. These days, cameras are everywhere; from CCTV and dashcams to doorbell cams and mobile phones. Each lens can document the crucial moments of our lives, both good and evil. By joining the dots between the network of cameras, detectives can create a visual montage of evidence, helping to catch perpetrators in the moments before they commit their final acts of murder.

This brand-new and original series has unique access to the video footage that has led to the detection and conviction of killers across the globe. Experts from the police and legal teams explain how the latest digital technology can help build the collage of evidence that can crack a case and secure a conviction. The series also examines the role that social media can play in these cases, with wayward posts sometimes providing the piece in the jigsaw needed to solve the puzzle and nail the perpetrator.

The show focuses on the victims of crime and their loved ones, with family and friends providing their first-hand accounts of how these chilling events occurred. The series also features expert analysis from Dr. Julia Shaw, the renowned psychological scientist and author. She provides key insight into the complex psychological and social aspects of murder, exploring what drives people to commit such acts. Through Dr. Shaw, we learn what happens in relationships and what leads strangers to kill, furthering our understanding of these disturbing cases.

The series starts tonight with the chilling 2019 case of Julia Rawson, a 42-year-old from Dudley in the West Midlands. She went missing on a night out after being seen in a pub talking to a man with distinctive tattoos and beard. The CCTV footage that emerged of their meeting led to the identification of one of the perpetrators of this alarming crime. Tonight’s episode also features the murder of Emma Walker, a cheerleader from Tennessee, shot in her bed from outside her house. The police put together an elaborate “sting” operation using a hidden camera to help catch her killer.

Later in the season, “Killers: Caught on Camera” casts a microscopic lens over the tragic murder of Gretchen Anthony, a 51-year-old from Florida. Anthony is recorded desperately asking “Alexa” to call 911, then disappearing. Fortunately, the cameras in her home and garage provide invaluable clues that point the finger of blame at her estranged husband. Time is of the essence in this case, as he’s tracked heading towards the Mexican border. Will they catch him before he evades justice? The second part of the show heads to Solihull in the UK, where the body of 38-year-old Kerry Woolley is found in her bedroom. Analysis of night-time cameras together with dashcam footage from the car of the mother of the perpetrator provide the evidence the police need to convict him and his accomplice.

Wherever we are, so are cameras

With cameras being everywhere we go around the world, it’s no longer just the police who gather the evidence needed to crack cases. With an excellent blend of expert analysis, contributors with first-hand knowledge of the crimes and access to the vital and incriminating video footage, “Killers: Caught on Camera” is a brilliant addition to CBS Reality’s roster of true crime programming. This show is a must-see for anyone interested in the power of modern technology to solve crimes and bring those involved to justice.

“Killers: Caught on Camera” premieres on CBS Reality on Wednesday, 15th February at 10pm, and continues on Wednesdays for five weeks.
