At 28 years old, Scottish sports presenter Hazel Irvine made history in June 1993 as the youngest presenter of Grandstand, the BBC's leading sports show.
She's considered to be one of the very first female sports presenters in the UK and since then has gone on to host multiple sporting events, including the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Hazel Irvine's career
While she achieved an MA in History of Art at university, Hazel competed in multiple sports including netball, athletics and golf.
Her broadcasting career began in 1986 on Radio Clyde, but shortly moved over to Scottish Television (now STV), working her way from continuity announcer to sports reporter.
In 1990 she joined the BBC, working on BBC Scotland's Sportscene and Grandstand, as well as anchoring Scotland's Children in Need coverage for a decade. In 1994, she brought in the New Year by co-hosting Hogmanay Live.
Hazel has also covered plenty of football, reporting for Football Focus and introducing the live coverage of FIFA Women's World Cup back in 1995. Since then, she has given coverage for five FIFA World Cup tournaments.
She has reported on the London Marathon and Wimbledon for major BBC evening news bulletins.

Since Barcelona 1992, she has covered every summer Olympic games for the BBC, including Paris 2024, alongside Clare Balding, Fred Sirieix, Isa Guha, Jeanette Kwakye, JJ Chalmers, Gabby Logan and Laura Kenny.
