Set in the picturesque Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester in the 1950s, the popular detective drama centres around vicar William Davenport and Detective Inspector Geordie Keating who form an unlikely partnership in solving crimes.

Grantchester season 8

We're so excited that the new series of Grantchester has now returned to our screens. Don't worry if you've missed the start of the new episode as you can now catch up on ITVX. The new series begins in 1961 and life is good for the duo.

We were told ahead of the latest series that change could be on the horizon for Will and (spoiler warning) that came true at the end of the first episode. He very tragically had a crash when riding his motorbike shortly after having an argument with his wife Bonnie.

After turning a bend in the road, Will's bike collided with a pedestrian who stepped out into the road, sending Will skidding across the road. Luckily, Will wasn't too badly hurt, but the man he hit was very sadly unresponsive. This tragic incident is set to spark a downward spiral for Will, and we do know that this will be Tom Brittney's final series.
