TV presenter and property expert Amanda Lamb, 48, is best known for presenting the TV show Selling Houses with Amanda Lamb on Channel 4, in which she helps hapless buyers transform their homes with clever design tricks.

From turning junk rooms back into bedroom, to bringing out-dated furnishings up to speed, she's full of tips that work well for all home buyers.

You may also recognise Amanda from A Place In The Sun.

She started her career in property when she left school at 15.

"My mum said to me that as long as I could type I’d always find a job," says Amanda. "So I learned to type and went for two interviews – one at a solicitors and one at an estate agents.

"I was offered both jobs but I decided I had to go for the estate agents as I’ve always loved homes. I think it’s because I’m inherently nosey!"

Was Amanda Lamb a model?

Yes, at 5' 11 she is very tall and has appeared in numerous campaigns including starring in the Scottish Widow adverts.

"I first got approached to do modelling while I was working as an estate agent in Portsmouth. My dad thought I was mad. I remember him saying ‘what do you want to do that for when you’ve got a really good job?’ But my mum said ‘someone’s given you wings, go use them and fly’. When I started modelling and didn’t have a penny she used to pack me off to London with these little food parcels every week.

"I finished modelling after seven years and was all ready to go back to school and train to be a teacher. But literally six minutes into my first lecture, my agent rang me and said 'they’re casting for this thing called Place in the Sun and they want someone with property experience'. She said 'I know you love property and used to be an estate agent so do you fancy having a go?' I remember them saying to me its six shows and I thought ‘oh that’ll keep me going for a bit’. I presented it for five years!"

Is Amanda Lamb married?

Amanda was previously married to Mike Carter, but the couple divorced in 2003. In 2012 she married her now husband and A Place In The Sun camera man, Sean McGuinness. They have two children together, Willow and Lottie.

"After my first marriage ended in divorce it took a good two or three years to recover from it. I didn’t think I would ever meet anyone else but just when I was least expecting it, I met my husband Sean, in 2006.

"We’ve been married now for five years. He is such a wonderful husband and father and I am a very lucky girl. I have also suffered a miscarriage. It was devastating but I went onto have my two beautiful children (daughters Willow, 11, and Lottie, seven). So that loss made me really appreciate being a mother.

"Once I had my first daughter Willow in 2009, I gave up my job on A Place in The Sun. I was pregnant when I was filming the Australian series and that decided it for me. Lots of presenters who work on the show travel with their babies and I am in awe of them. I had eight years of travelling the world with the series and although it was the best job ever, my focus and my priority shifted a lot when I became a mum."
