Following the huge success of the ITV period drama, Downton was transported to the big screen back in 2019, and now, the Downton Abbey sequel has been confirmed and will be released March 18, 2022.
Originally, film producer Gareth Neame suggested the exciting announcement would give Downton fans something to look forward to at the end of the difficult year we've all had.
"After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much-beloved characters of Downton Abbey," he said.
However the release of the new film has been pushed back by three months to March 18.
The new film, officially named Downton Abbey: A New Era is set to see all of our favourite characters return, including Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Penelope Wilton, Jim Carter and Hugh Bonneville to name a few.
