It's almost time for us to enjoy the best of festive TV, or more specifically, the Call The Midwife Christmas special 2024, to round off the end of series 13. And unlike previous years, it will be split into two 60-minute episodes, so after tucking into our turkey, we can settle down with some mince pies and enjoy a visit to Nonnatus house!

We were delighted when Call the Midwife posted a behind-the-scenes snap of the Call the Midwife cast members around a Christmas tree in an upcoming scene.

The post read: "NEWS!! Call the Midwife begins filming for the new Christmas Special and Series 14
Hello all!
It's happening!! We've just received the iconic clapperboard shot hot from the set of Call the Midwife, where our intrepid team have begun the first day's filming for the new Christmas special and the FOURTEENTH series!!
And what better way to open up the new season than with the Turners Shelagh (Laura Main), Patrick (Stephen McGann), and their children May (April Rae Hoang) and Angela (Alice Brown) in the cosy festive turner home
XXX
We begin our filming season in Christmas 1969, before we move on to the new year, and our new series 14 episodes. This yuletide marks a poignant turning point - as it's the last time we'll be filming in the swinging sixties! Next stop: the supersonic seventies!!! 🎄🎄🎄🎅🔔❄️"

Call the Midwife Christmas special plot

With the Christmas season in full swing, the countdown for the Call the Midwife Christmas special is also in full swing and the cast have been very busy promoting the highly anticipated Christmas episodes and new season. From what we can gather so far, the plot of the festive episodes is another very emotional one.

From a carol concert and an escaped prisoner to the spread of influenza and the Hong Kong flu, we can expect a lot in store for the Christmas special 2024.

Here's a detailed synopsis of what to expect from the BBC: "Set in 1969 where the Nonnatus midwives are in their element, all busy delivering babies and doing the job they are most dedicated and committed to.

"The funfair comes to Poplar, adding a burst of colour and excitement to the frosty landscape but there are other visitors to the borough - including influenza and the Hong Kong flu. As Poplar also prepares for a carol concert, the neighbourhood is gripped by the news of an escaped prisoner and fears grow that he may be in the local area after a spate of break-ins.

"The Turner children are caught up in the fever surrounding the Blue Peter Christmas appeal to collect dinky cars and scrap metal. Trixie makes a fleeting visit to Nonnatus House and is delighted to see her brother Geoffrey, and Miss Higgins has her grandson Harry stay for Christmas. Violet hosts a mince pie competition but the Buckles’ preparations for Reggie’s homecoming are thrown into turmoil."
