Downton Abbey actress Joanne Froggatt is returning to the small screen to lead in ITV’s new and intense drama, Angela Black.

Written by Harry and Jack Williams, the duo who brought us BBC detective dramas, Baptiste and The Missing, the story follows Angela Black (Froggatt) a woman who, from the outside, looks as if she’s living the perfect life, but in reality, she’s being abused by her controlling husband.

The drama is set to hit our TV screens on 10 October and we can’t wait to see how ITV explores such an important and serious storyline. Here’s everything we know so far about Angela Black, including the release date, plot line, who’s starring in it and how you can watch it…

What is Angela Black about?

The new six-part drama will follow Angela Black, a mum-of-two who lives in a beautiful house with her hard-working and good looking husband. To the outside world, her life looks pretty much perfect, but little does everyone know that behind closed doors Angela is secretly being abused by her husband. He’s been doing this for years and she’s struggling to see a way out. But when Angela is approached by a private detective, Ed, who starts spilling her husband’s darkest secrets, her world further spins out of control. Angela then becomes determined to fight back against the man who has tormented her life for most of her adult years, but will she succeed and can Ed be trusted? You’ll have to watch!
